Thunderbird 2.0, the latest version of Mozilla’s free email client, is available today. The open-source alternative to Microsoft’s Outlook Express had been in beta for the past two weeks.
New features include the ability for users to more easily manage their messages using tags, advanced folder views, message history navigation and rapid inbox and message searches. The email client offers advanced security and privacy whilst integrating professional networking tools, VoIP (voice over IP) calling and shared address books.
Built using the same model as Mozilla’s Firefox browser, Thunderbird 2.0 can be customized to suit the individual’s preference by choosing from hundreds of free add-ons to alter its appearance and functionality. Users also have the convenience of creating message templates.
As tagging has proved such a popular form of adding information on blogs and photo-sharing sites to enhance content searching, Mozilla decided to incorporate it into its latest product. Thunderbird 2.0 is available now as a free download.
